Fenfushi is small and easily explored on foot in a single afternoon. Most guests stay three to five nights — enough for a couple of whale shark and marine excursions, a sandbank trip, and plenty of unhurried beach time.
How do I get to Fenfushi?
The nearest airport is Maamigili (Villa International Airport, VAM), which handles both domestic and some international flights. Fenfushi is roughly five minutes away by boat from Maamigili, making it one of the easiest South Ari islands to reach.

Fenfushi sits inside the South Ari Marine Protected Area, the whale shark capital of the Maldives, and the back reef of the island is a known gathering area for them. Whale sharks are gentle, curious filter-feeders (harmless to humans) and can reach up to around 12 metres in length.
What time of year is best for whale sharks?
Any time. South Ari Atoll is the only known area in the Maldives with year-round whale shark sightings that don't depend on a particular season. That said, no sighting is ever guaranteed — they're wild animals — but few places offer better odds.
What other marine life can I expect?
Manta rays are present around the island throughout the year, alongside turtles, dolphins, reef fish, and vibrant coral. The shallow reefs make for excellent, accessible snorkelling straight from the beach.
Do I need to be a diver to see the marine life?
Not at all. Much of the best marine life — whale sharks and mantas included — is encountered while snorkelling, so swimming ability is more important than diving certification. Diving is available for those who want it.
